The kids and I left Philadelphia on Friday, early afternoon, and drove to Washington D.C. while Jerry was working. We got checked into the hotel, and hung out for a while to unwind, and by the time we went to get some food Jerry was almost there. As a family we drove from out hotel to Washington DC. We only had a couple hours before it was going to be dark, and all the museums were closed already. We first went to the Lincoln Memorial. It was pretty awesome. The kids were excited about it because they recognized it from the penny. We also told them a lot about the places we were going to go see so there would be interest on their part, to avoid them being bored. They really loved seeing all the monuments.
We also saw the Washington Memorial and the mall.
Then we walked down towards the Vietnam memorial.
The next morning we took the metro into Washington DC to go to a couple of the museums. They are always so cool to me. The poor kids, liked them, and did a good job, but they kept thinking the museums were going to be like the interactive children's museums we've been to, so as we were in them, looking around one child would ask, "When are we going to the museum?" Ha. It happened a couple times. So, even though the museums were probably more interesting for me and Jerry, they all remained positive and had a good time too. It was a very hot day, and by the time we got back to our car at the station we were ready to be done, but we still had a 3 1/2 - 4 hour drive ahead of us to get back to New Jersey. Since Jerry had his car too he took 2 kids and I had 2. It was actually a really enjoyable ride home. I'm so glad we were able to make a trip to DC, even if it was a quick day and a half trip. Hopefully it's someplace the kids will remember a bit about. I also hope we can go again as a family some day.
