We all get a small, inexpensive gift - representing Christmas. Last year I had ordered some fall clothes for the kids at an online sale and they came just a few days before Harvest Day. Because of money, and Jerry's busy schedule last year, plus Luke was only a few weeks old, going to the store alone was not going to happen for me, so I decided to give them the clothes for their Harvest Day gift. Hayden wasn't too happy about that. This year he reminded us SEVERAL times that he didn't want clothes like last year. In other words - total failure last year. Because he made such a big deal of it, reminding us over and over that he really hoped he wouldn't get a shirt again as his gift, Jerry and I couldn't resist being the most horrible parents of all time. Yes, we wanted to have a little fun with Hayden, who normally has a great sense of humor. There was the annual online sale at Children's Place again and I had got the kids some winter clothes again, saving them for Christmas. I took one of those shirts and wrapped it up for Hayden. Don't worry. We got him a real present too, and hid it until after he'd opened the shirt. Well, I'm thinking Hayden was really tired that day.... Or I'm a horrible mother! After the other kids had all opened their fun presents he opened his present....the shirt. Poor boy, he tried not to cry. He really tried to hide his disappointment, but he couldn't do it. The tears just started flowing. He was so sad. We felt awful! We gave him the other present, thinking that would cheer him right up, but it took him a while to recover from the shirt. You can kind of see the disappointment, sadness, and tears on his face in the picture of him opening his present. So, so sad.
Other than that little faux pas, it was a wonderful, wonderful Harvest Day!
