Our sweet Hayden turned 9 in December. This year he had a family party instead of a friend party. It was a good thing too, because the day we'd been thinking about having a friend party there was a terrible storm and it would have probably been cancelled anyway. The pain of having a December birthday, I guess. We had a fun family party though. The day before, on Saturday, when there was a slight lull in the storm and the roads were plowed we went to the mall and Hayden got to get his very first Build a Bear. (Rebecca is a very good commercial for Build a Bear) He got Santa Claus.
On Sunday we had a family party, complete with a Minecraft cake. This was my second attempt at a Minecraft cake, last year's cake used fondant frosting, but it was too old so it was hard to mold as much. This 3D cake turned out much better, still not as amazing as those you see on Pinterest, but good enough for us.:)
At 9 years old, Hayden is still such a smart and good boy. He's in 3rd grade and does really well in school. He isn't writing as much this year as previous years, which is probably more of a result of the difference of teachers - even though I really like his teacher this year- but the writing assignments this year are more guided, and on a set topic, that he doesn't get a chance to write as many stories about whatever he wants to write. Those books get so creative. He says he struggles in math, but in reality he's actually good at math, but it doesn't come quite as easily as all the other subjects to him so he thinks he's bad at it. Crazy boy. He is SUPER creative. He still loves Legos and Minecraft. He wants to be some kind of an engineer or an architect when he grows up. He's already made some good friends this school year. I have to give my kids such credit. It must be hard moving to so many different schools over the years and having to start from scratch again with making friends. It's definitely helping him get out of his shell though.
We love Hayden so much. I am so proud of him, and glad he's a part of our family!!
